Summer jams: Don’t go GaGa

June 19, 2009

While sometimes I would just rather spend time whittling a shelf or stealing candy from a baby, curiosity kicks in and I can’t stay away from The Charts.  The Charts are a lot like Britney Spears … up close a hideous mess, but from far away it is A-OK.

This week Lady GaGa finds herself with another hit … for some reason.  No, friends, not the all-too-catchy “Pokerface,” but a new poppin’ joint she calls “Lovegame”.  This song couldn’t possibly be THEE summer hit because of the WTFs that form in your head while listening.

Yeah, I understand it is cute to nickname the male member a “disco stick,” but Madonna called and wants her 1980s unsexy sex references back.

“Lovegame” is a perfect song for the clubs, but don’t do an analytical review of the lyrics.  She’s no Bob Dylan.

It’s a playful song, which is really all the world needs right now.   “Lovegame” certainly won’t end Lady GaGa’s chart success, but it will slow her momentum.

What’s your jam of the summer so far? Leave a comment or give me a shoutout @mrsmaid.

I was thinking the same thing on my drive to Detroit. “1901” is a hot ass jam with mass appeal. The album is fabulous as well. Other than that, I’m starting to feel the Kanye/Clipse joint “Kind of Like a Big Deal.” That more a hip hop than a pop thing, though.
Could Grizzly Bear count? I can’t stop listening to “Two Weeks” lately.
